Secondary School Athletics Championship

Athletics 4a.jpg

On Wednesday 6th April, 47 students from Years 7 - 12 travelled down to the SA Athletics Stadium at Mile End to compete in the Secondary Schools Athletics Championships. After a few last minute changes to the team, the students showed resilience in supporting each other to fill events on short notice. Showing their competitive spirit, students started the day well putting their talents to the test, with many placing first or in the top three of the short and long distance running events. A special mention to Year 12 student Keith Thimm who won first in the 3000m, an event and distance he had never completed before. Throughout the day students performed well in a variety of field events, with many achieving personal bests whilst at the same time encouraging their fellow MBHS team mates. We also had a number of students who helped official and score events, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and teamwork in helping to make the day run smoothly. MBHS finished the day in style with some excellent results in the 4 x 100m relays.

Going into presentations the students were excited to see how they placed against the eleven other schools in their division. Their hardwork and determination paid off when it was announced that Murray Bridge High School had finished in second place, just shy of Adelaide Botanic High School in first place. An achievement that all our students should be proud of.

We wish to thank all the staff that dedicated their time to planning and organising this event. A very special mention to our MBHS Athletics team who showed excellent sportsmanship and team spirit throughout the day. It is days like this that contribute to building a positive culture within our school community, a culture of success and a culture of always trying your best.
