Independent Learning Centre

What is the Independent Learning Centre?
The Independent Learning Centre is 1 of 12 schools across South Australia running a Tailored Learning Provision program which is a Department for Education initiative taking over from FLO in 2024.
The ILC focuses on providing a Tailored Learning option to support identified young people between Year 10-12 a flexible enrolment option to engage in a learning pathway. 
 
The ILC was established in 2013 and since then over 180 students have completed their SACE. 
 
Other Key features and services offered at the ILC under the Tailored Learning Provisions include: 
Tailored Learning Provisions: Each student has an individual learning program, which is designed to cater to the individual needs and future pathways of the student. 

Learning program: Students in the TLP class learn with the support of a leader, teachers and youth workers. They follow an individual tailored school curriculum based around SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education).  

Individual Case Management: Tailored Learning Provision guidelines require each student to be connected with a Youth Worker who is available to assist students with  personal development, goal setting, and the learning engagement.

Part time program: Tailored Learning Provisions guidelines require students to engage with a minimum of 10 hours of learning per week. 

Opening & learning times: The ILC is open Monday-Friday 9am-3pm for learning programs. Students negotiate with ILC Leaders their timetable, attending one of three session times 5 days per week. Learning times are 9am-11am, 11am-1pm & 1pm-3pm.   

Community based Learning Programs: All students programs are based around SACE completion. Students may also choose to engage in other community based learning programs within their Tailored Learning Program such as VET, TAFE, RTO Programs or structured workplace learning opportunities. 

Retention and Engagement: The Tailored Learning Provisions mission is to deliver a comprehensive program that extends learning resources to address the diverse needs of the school and community, ensuring young people remain engaged with their education and support them with their future pathways. The ILC is dedicated to fostering the growth of young people to contribute to the local community characterized by a sense of value for every individual, respect for differences, and the fulfillment of both physical and emotional needs.
