Robotics Showdown at Adelaide Showgrounds

On Saturday 14th of August, the Bunyips Robotics team had an exciting opportunity to attend and participate in the Adelaide Showgrounds Scrimmage. The scrimmage is a National Science Week event organised and hosted by the Student Robotics Club of South Australia. It was the first in-person FTC robotics event in South Australia that we have been able to participate in since March 2020!

Like traditional sporting events, robotics competitions draw crowds who gather to discover which robot will best perform the challenge. Everyone in the Bunyip’s team was thrilled to be able to engage with the greater FTC Robotics community in South Australia, and grateful to be able to demonstrate their workmanship, determination and gracious professionalism.

The Bunyips entered two robots in this competition, so interested students could share the hands-on experience of participating in all aspects of a tournament. Throughout the day, the Bunyips worked collaboratively alongside 8 different teams in the pits to get robots ready to compete head to head in the FIRST FTC Ultimate Goal challenge qualification matches in alliances. In a new twist for us, our two robots formed the red alliance in qualification match 2 but were competing in opposing alliances for qualification match 4.

Working together over the course of this year and finally being able to demonstrate their capabilities as a team was incredibly fun and fulfilling, despite the challenges encountered. The team’s perseverance shined through in the finale as their lucky robot was selected to be in the finals and finished as part of the runner-up alliance.

Well done team!
