Success in Chess Tournament

Chess.jpg

On Monday 29th March a small team of students competed against four other teams in the Interschool North T1 Chess tournament. Our team consisted of 3 of our 7 usual squad members, Sam Groocock, Joel Wienke and Logain Brannen and two rookies competing in their first school tournament, Jarred Critchley and Leland Seibert.

Both Jarred and Leland managed to win two of their seven games in impressive debuts. Logain won 4 games bringing him to 12th place in a field of 33, while Joel came 4th (on countback, equal 3rd on points) with 5 wins. The tournament was won by Sam who remained undefeated for all seven matches.

The top 4 individual results count towards the team score meaning Jarred contributed to the total of 19 points bringing our team to second place, two points behind Temple Christian College (Paralowie).

Congratulations to Sam for winning, and the team for coming second, and thankyou to Jeff McKeown for running the chess club at school.
