Year 10 - Child Studies

Course Overview

This course is suitable for students who may wish to pursue a career working with children.

Students will identify and discuss the importance of young children's social and developmental needs, safety and rights. They will then respond by researching and planning the creation of a suitable product which may include a book or toy. Students will investigate and reflect on a contemporary issue related to young children's development. Eg. Should immunisation be compulsory for childcare?

Students will be required to complete up to 5 days work placement in an early childhood setting and will be required to apply for and receive a volunteer Working With Children Check (WWCC) and complete online safety training.

Possible Pathways

This course can lead to Certificate III Children’s Services through a regional VET program, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Pediatric Nursing and Midwifery.
