Curriculum Guide

Year 10 - Advanced Mathematics (Specialist Pathway)

Course Overview

Advanced Mathematics is an elective mathematics subject which aims to deepen students' conceptual understanding and knowledge to solve non-routine problems.

This subject provides students with a deeper understanding of mathematics to enrich their mathematical studies, in preparation for SACE Mathematics. Students intending to pursue Stage 1 Mathematical Methods and/or Specialist Mathematics in the senior years are strongly encouraged to complete this semester course. This subject is studied alongside the Year 10 Mathematics (Methods Pathway) core subject.

The curriculum enhances a student’s potential to develop and use their mathematical knowledge to solve non-routine problems and  focuses heavily on high level abstract mathematics, and introduces the concept of mathematical proofs. Strong algebra skills will be required throughout all topics.

It is recommended that students purchase a graphics calculator (approximately $190).
